GUILLAUME BIGOT.

William Bigot was the brother of Roger Bigot and second son of Robert Wigot, Fitz Wigot, or Bigot. He went to Apula but returned with Geoffroi Ridel and fought at the conquest of England. He received large grants of land from king William, among which were Dunmow and Finchingfield, Essex, where he made gifts to Thetford abbey. He had a son Ilger, who in 1096 was chief commander in Palestine under Tancred who left him with 200 knights to defend Jerusalem. The name is mentioned by Holinshed Duchesne, Leland, Brompton and Dives.
