HERVI DE BOURGES.

Geoffry Papabos was made viscount of Bourges 920. Geoffry III, his grandson, rebuilt the abbey of Saint-Ambrose, Bourges, 1012. He had issue Geoffry whose son Stephen was viscount of Bourges and Maldalbert, father of Herve, de Bourges (Bituricensis). The latter accompanied the Conqueror to Senlac and held a great barony in Suffolk 1086 (Domesday). Henry Fitz Herve, his son, witnessed a charge of Roger de Clare. Herve, brother of Henry Fitz Herve, held in Suffolk under Peche and his son paid a fine in 1130. The barony passed from the family temp. Stephen, and from them descended the marquesses of Bristol and the baronets Bathurst.
