RAOUL DE BRANCHE.

From Saint-Denis de Branche. Raoul de Branche of the Norman family of Branches, whose estates lay in Caux, accompanied William de Warren to England in 1066, where he received a grant of two knights' fees, of which Gresham was the chief seat. Barsham was also held from the de Wancis, tenants of Warren. Raoul and his son Richard occur in the charters of Walshingham abbey. Walter, son of the latter, in 1165 held half a knight's fee of the king in Caux, Normandy, and his grandson Richard occurs temp. Henry II. From them the Gresham family descends. The name is listed by Holinshed and Duchesne.
