ROBERT DE BREHERVAL.

This potent lord was one of the eight sons of Eudo, count of Brittany, who held the castle and barony of Ivry in Normandy by the service of three knights' fees. He came to England, accompanied by his son Ascelin Goel de Percival, with the Conqueror and fought at Senlac, for which service he received the lordships of Katy and Harpetre in Somersetshire. He soon after returned home and died a monk in the abbey of Bec. He is referred to in the Battle abbey roll as Lovell. His son, Ascelin Goel de Percival, received his father's estates in England and is entered in Domesday as a large landowner in Somersetshire, where he held the barony of Castle-Cary.
