BUTTECOURT

This was meant probably for Botetourt, the name of an old Norman race, whose descendants were summoned to parliament as barons in the reigns of the first three Edwards. At the death of John, Lord Botetourt, in 1335, Joyce, Lady Burnell, his granddaughter, became his sole heiress, but that lady dying a.p. in 1406, the Barony of Botetourt fell into abeyance between her aunts, and so continued among their descendants for more than three centuries and a half, when it was at length called out in favour of the representative of Katherine de Berkeley, and is now vested in the Duke of Beaufort.
