AMFROI DE CONDE.

The name of Amfrid Camerarine is recorded as a witness to a charter in Normandy in 1066 who held a barony of 26 lordships in chief in England, 1086 (Domesday). Robert, his son, gave his estate of Conde to Holy Trinity, Caen, in 1082, and is called Robert de Condy, in England in 1103. His brother, Audin de Conde, was bishop of Bayeux in 1112; another brother Richard de Conde, accompanied duke Robert to Palestine in 1096, and Turstin de Conde was archbishop of York in 1119. William de Condd (Willm' de Conden), mentioned in a charter concerning a donation of land to the church of Ste-Marie of Rouen in 1105, immediately following the names of William Crispin junior and his brother Manasses, suggests that he was akin to Pierre de Conde, the son of Emma, daughter of Gilbert Crispin, both doubtless here connected. Robert de Conde, a descendant of this Pierre, rendered in 1131 an accompt for relief of land of his father in Lincolnshire. Pierre probably was the father of Roger de Condd, husband of the heiress Adelaide de Cheney referred to in a charter of k Steghen (1141) as "Adelais de Condie" when he reinstated her in the possession of her lands. One speculates upon a relationship between Amfroi and Emma, but it is perplexing because the Crispin genealogy only chronicles her son Pierre.
