HUGUE CORBON.

From the Corbon or Corbonnais, the ancient name of a district in Maine, bounded by Commanche l'Huisne and the Sarthe, also called Perche. Four of the name are entered as under-tenants in Domesday, on which account the various rolls, as well as Burke and Delisle, are probably correct in recording this family at the battle of Hastings. Hugh Corbon was an under-tenant in Norfolk and Suffolk holding under Roger Bigot, William in Essex, another in Kent holding Peckeham of bishop Odo, and one in Warwickshire. The family spread to Derbyshire, Somersetshire, Devonshire and many other parts of England, and in the time of Henry II their seat was Corbin's Hall in Staffordshire which was held by Robert Corbin. The name occurs on the rolls of Holinshed, Duchesne and Leland and Delisle records Guillaume and Hugue.
