ROBERT DE COURSON.

From Courson, near Caen, arrondissement Vire, Normandy. Robert de Curcon, or de Curcun, held estates in Norfolk and Suffolk in 1086 (Domesday) and left descendants in the former county, who prevailed for many generations. Richard and Hubert, his sons, were seated in Derby in the reign of Henry I. Richard and William de Curcun appear in the Rotuli Curia Regis (1194-9). John de Courzon was summoned to the great council held in Westminster in 1324 and the next year was a commissioner of Array. Hubert de Courson certified a grant to the church of St-Marie-de-Courson, Normandy, and a member of the family from the bailifry of Orbec attended the great assembly of the nobles in 1789. The name appears on the rolls of Holinshed, Duchesne and Dives.
