HUGUE D'HERICY.

Landric de Baugency of Baugency in the Orleanois had issue John and Hericus or Hercie, who, in 1022, were prohibited by king Robert of France from making inroads on the estates of a neighbouring abbey. Landric witnessed a charter of king Robert in 1028 and was the ancestor of the barons of Baugency. In 'Norman People' it is stated that Hercius was the father of Ancelin de Beaumont, styled Alselin in Domesday, who held a great barony in Nottingham, etc., in 1086 (Domesday), but this latter Alselin was a descendant of the house of Dinan in Brittany. Ivo Fitz Hercie, or de Heriz, was viscount of Nottingham before 1130. Ralph Herice occurs in 1178 in Normandy. The name appears in the Researches of the Bayeux Tapestry by l'abbe de La Rue and upon the roll of Leopold Delisle.
