HONFROI VIS DE LOUP.
This seigneur emanated from Vis-de-Lou in Normandy. He held a barony in Berkshire, and in addition was a mesne lord in the same county, as well as in Hampshire. Ralph, his brother, held in Norfolk, in 1086 (Domesday), from whom descended William de Vis-de-Lou, lord of "Visdelieus" in Shelfhanger in 1170. A member of the Berkshire line, Walkelin Vis de Lou, held a barony in 1165 and sir William Vis de Lou likewise appears there c. 1300. Sir Thomas occurs c. 1350, and a branch was seated for seven generations at Shotley, Suffolk. The family remained in these counties for many centuries.
