FITZ BERTRAN DE PELEIT.

The identity of this noble Breton who followed duke William to Senlac has not been determined, but he must have been of high degree and much consequence. Wace, in referring to the contingent which came in the train of Alain Fergant, count of Brittany, remarks: "Alain Felgan (Fergant) also came to the crossing and brought with him great baronage from among the Bretons. De Peleit le filz Bertran (l. 11570) and the sire de Dinan (Alain Fitz Flaald) came also; and Raoul de Gael and many Bretons from many castles." Wace must have considered him the most important of the count of Brittany's barons, otherwise he would not have mentioned his name first; nevertheless, nothing else is known about him. The manner in which Wace has recorded him may be interpreted as the son of Bertram de Peleit, Bertran the son of Peleit or de Peleit, the son of Bertran (vide Robert Bertram Le Tort).
