LE SIRE DE POER.
Poher, Poncar, or Power descended from the lords of Poncar in Brittany, of whom Rivallon was living in 846. From him descended the viscounts of Poncaer or Poher, of whom Tanegui occurs c. 1100. A branch of the family settled in Devon in 1066; with Alured de Mayenne, and in 1165 Ranulph Poher held three fees of this barony. Bartholomew Poher at the same time was lord of Blackborough, Devon, and was father of Robert Poher. This Robert Poher, or Poer, settled in Ireland and was ancestor of the lords Poer, barons of Dunnoyle and Curraghmore. Hence descended the earls of Tyrone; ancestors in the female line of the marquesses of Waterford, the lords of Decies and also baronets Poer. The name is carried on the rolls of Holinshed, Duchesne, Leland and Worcester.
