LE SIRE DE PRAERES.

This family came from Presles, near Vire, and Wace (l. 13661) mentions "sire de Praeres" as having been present at the conquest, but this personage has not been identified. In 1119 a sire de Praers is recorded a vassal in England of the earl of Chester. This was Richard de Praers; who gave Kanockmirton at that time to Chester abbey. he was a tenant of the baron of Wich-Milbank at Barthomley in Cheshire, held by the family shortly after 1086. They possessed great estates and from them descended the branches which had settled in Baddeley, Badington, Checkley, Duddon and Stoke, all of which became extinct at an early period. The principal line, that of Barthomley, expired with Thomas de Praers in I349. The name is found in several parts of England.
