GUILLAUME DE SEMILLY.

Semilly is near St-Lo and the castle there was an important one. Wace (l. 13650) chronicles "sire de Semillie," who was probably the Guillaume de Semilly who appears in two charters in 1082. He must have been of high degree, since he witnessed these documents immediately after bishop Odo and Roger de Montgomery. His daughter and heiress Cecilia, married Enguerrand, son of Richard du Hommet, constable of Normandy, and their eldest son, Guillaume, assumed the name of his mother, granting as Guillaume de Semilly land to the abbey of Aunay, with the consent of his brothers, Jourdain, bishop of Lisieux, Geoffry and Enguerrand du Hommet. His name is registered by Guillaume Tailleur.
