GUILLAUME DE VALECHERVILLE.

From Valecherville, also designated Wallichville, or Warlanville, in Caux. Fulco de Valecherville was living 1063, and his son William de Wallichville came to the conquest in 1066, holding grants in Derbyshire, but died before 1086. Robert, his oldest son, held Stanley, Derbyshire, 1086 (Domesday) and several lordships in Nottinghamshire from the king, and was, as "Robert de Stanley," sheriff of Staffordshire, 1124-9. Ralph, the second son, received estates in Nottinghamshire from Henry I, and Walter (de Valiquerville), the third son, was in charge of the troops of Henry I at the castle of Vatteville, Normandy, in 1124, where he was captured. Shortly afterwards it was demolished by the command of king Henry. Hence the baronets Stanley, the celebrated earls of Derby, and the lords Monteagle.
