ANSFROT DE VAUBADON.

The name Vaubadon, Valbadon, Vaberon or Vabadune occurs thrice in Domesday. Ansfrid de Vaubadon, apparently the head of the family, was a baron in Northamptonshire, where he also held under Odo, bishop of Bayeux. Osmond "de Valle Badonis" was a sub-tenant in Herefordshire and is mentioned in England during the reign of King William. Renouf the third under-held in Kent, some of whose descendants occur later at Shipborne. They were seated at Hatcham, Surrey, temp. Henry lI., under the name Vabadune. The family probably came to the conquest under the banner of bishop Odo, and Delisle records all three at Hastings. The name also occurs on the roll of Holinshed.
