ALBERIC DE VERE

Alberic de Ver, the Norman Knight of the Conquest, is stated to have possessed numerous lordships in the different shires, of which Kensington, in Middlesex, was one, and Hedingham, in Essex, where his castle was situated and where he chiefly resided, another. From him descended the illustrious House of Vere, ennobled under the title of Oxford.
