This is a short leather or silk
strap secured to the talons of the falcon in order to secure it to the fist.
The leash line which is wrapped around the falconer's hand is then attached
to the jess. The leash line is used to fasten the falcon to its perch. A newly
captured falcon is kept on the glove, known as a gauntlet, for the first 24
hours. The term for this procedure is called 'waking'.
