Knife

Knives, as with spoons, were not provided at the meal table. These items were of a personal nature and were provided by the diner. The knife was used for cutting the meat which would often be shared by two diners, the more important of the two being waited on by the other. It was customary to wipe the knife after use. These small utility knives were known as 'hadseaxe'.
