Mountjoy

It was the custom of the armies of Charlemagne, whom William admired, to build a cairn of stones called a "mountjoy" to commemorate a victory; and the duke must have caused one to be erected on Caldbec Hill, for the locality has been continuously called Mountjoy to this day. -- The Norman Conquest -- Whitelock
