DAVID D'ARGENTAN.

The town and castle of Argentan, Berry, was held in 1080 by Geoffry sire d'Argentan, perhaps the brother of this Norman companion of Duke William at the conquest of England. David was a Domesday baron in Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire and his manor of Wymondley in the former county was held by grand serjeanty "to serve the king upon the day of his coronation with a silver cup." He married the daughter of Fitz Tek, and his son or grandson William was the father of Reginald, the first member of the family of prominence who died about 1139.
