Drogo de Brevere

Drogo de Brevere was a Flemming of proven valour, who came over to England with William the Conqueror and recieved for his services the Isle of holderness, on which he built the Castle of Skipsey, and other estates including Bytham in Lincolnshire.

He married a kinswoman of the king and whether by accident or by intent, in 1086 killed her. In an attempt to conceal the crime he pretended that he wished to take his wife to Flanders, but having insufficient funds made a personal request to the king to assist him financially . The king obliged, but later, on learning the truth of drogo's deciet, sent orders for his arrest. Drogo by this time was out of William's reach, however, all of his lands were seized and bestowed on Odo de champagne.
