From Pierrepont, near Saint-Sauveur, in the Cotentin, which up to the 17th century remained in the family, or from Pierrepont, near Falaise. Three brothers occur as under-tenants in Domesday, Reginald, Geoffroi and Robert. The first, Reginald, held property in Norfolk, while Geoffry and Robert occur in Suffolk. Reginald's name appears as Reinaldus de Perapund, and Geoffry and Robert as de Petroponte. The two latter held about 9,000 acres in Sussex, under earl Warren, and there is reason to believe that they were closely related to him. Reginald's son, William, held 4,000 more acres in the county and founded the family of Poynings, a very renowned house. Robert, the founder of the great house of Pierrepont in England, probably held the largest manor in this county, Hurst-Pierpoint, extending over several different parishes, which he transmitted to his descendants in unbroken male succession for nearly three centuries. A Simon and Robert de Pierrepont went to the siege of Acre with Richard Coeur de Lion. A descendant of Robert de Pierrepont was created by Charles I, baron Pierepont of Holme-Pierrepont and viscount Newark in 1627. In the following year he became earl of Kingston. --(This name appears on the Falaise Roll).
