A tree divider marks the end of the Battle of Fulford. The English fled in the direction of the village of Heslington and Hardrada and his forces returned to the boats at Riccall. The runic symbol in the top border is Pertho or Peorð. This rune is associated with birth and death, winning and losing. This rune appears on St. Cuthbert's coffin. This symbol is followed by children playing a game. In the lower border we see a leech (doctor) plying his trade.
