After the fall of Tostig, the banner is taken up by Eystein Orri. In the top border appears the eight legged horse Sleipnir and in the lower border appear the toadstool Amanita muscaria. It has been suggested that the Vikings used Amanita muscaria to produce their berserker rages. Berserkers were Norse warriors who are reported in the Old Norse literature to have fought in a nearly uncontrollable, trance-like fury. A characteristic which later gave rise to the English word berserk. Historians believe that berserkers worked themselves into a rage before battle which may have been made possible by consuming this Hallucinogenic fungus.
