Orris storm continues. This was the third and final stage of the battle. The fighting was now more intense than ever. The re-enforcements, although exhausted from their three hour march from Riccall, were well equipped for the engagement. The route taken might have been through Riccall, Escrick, Wheldrake, Elvington, Kexby, High Catton and Stamford Bridge, a total of about 15 miles. Before the conquest, Wheldrake belonged to Morcar, after the conquest it belonged to William Mallet, later passing into the hands of William de Percy. In the lower border appears the rune Ansuz.
