In the top border, you will find the fable of the ‘Ass and the Wolf.’ In the bottom border, the star of Pleiades, an open star cluster located in the constellation of Taurus, is of interest. It appears in the frame with the bird like figures which is in fact an ostrich. Ostriches in medieval times were regarded as symbols of military prowess. The star is symbolic of the ancient belief that ostriches only lay their eggs when they can see the Pleiades. In Greek mythology, the stars of Pleiades represented the Seven Sisters. In Celtic mythology the Pleiades were associated with mourning and with funerals.
