After the burial of the fallen, William sends troops to a small village on the sea coast called Romney. A massacre of the townspeople takes place here in retaliation for the death of William’s troops. Apparently one of William’s ships had strayed from its course on their crossing over from Normandy and landed at Romney. The men of Romney killed everyone on the boat. In the upper border we see the fable of ‘The two Dogs.’ The moral to this fable is ‘Do not blame the children for the faults of the parents.’
