William returns to Bayeux Castle in Normandy, leading his army in triumph. Bayeux is a small town and commune in the Calvados département, in Normandy, Northwestern France. Bayeux is located just a few kilometres from the coast of the English Channel, between the city of Caen to the east and the base of the Cotentin Peninsula to the west. The area around Bayeux is called the Bessin which was a province of France until the French Revolution. The city was destroyed by Viking raids in the 9th Century and rebuilt by Bothon in the early 10th Century. Notice the hem of William’s mail tunic. It is the same as in the preceding scene, giving a clear identification that this is William.
