A stonemason is on the roof of the building at the start of this scene . He is putting the finishing touches to the newly completed Church of St. Peter (Westminster Abbey). The names of three master freemasons are recorded in connection with the building of Westminster Abbey, Godwin Gretsith, Teinfrith the churchwright and Leofsi Duddeson. The hand of god, pictured above the nave, is consecrating the building. To the end of this scene, eight pallbearers appear carrying King Edward’s shrouded body. Notice the scene reversal here. The burial of Edward the Confessor takes place here and in the following scene, he is talking to Harold on his deathbed.
