William, having received news of Harold’s coronation, holds a council of war. This scene takes place at the Palace of Rouen. Standing to William’s left is Duke William’s cousin, William Fitz-Osbern. To William’s right stands his half-brother Odo, Bishop of Bayeux and Earl of Kent. Odo’s mother Herleve, married Herluin de Conteville, by whom she had one other son, Robert and two daughters, Emma, wife of Richard, Viscount of the Avranchin and Muriel, who became the wife of Eudo al Chapel. In this scene we see Duke William giving instructions for the building of an invasion fleet.
