Carrigarreely Castle is located just outside Caherconlish in the east division of Limerick .
It is an ivy-clad tower house on a low outcrop probably built in the 15th or
16th century. The castle is about five storeys high and the main entrance is
two metres above the present ground level. There are traces of a machicolation
at roof level and evidence of a spiral stairway in the SW corner. The ruin of
a three-storey building stands in front of the castle of which only one wall
remains.
