Lochinch Castle, built in 1864 is the residence of the Earl of Stair and stands in the gardens of nearby Castle Kennedy, the former family seat. The castle is built in the old Scottish Baronial style, exhibiting pepper-box turrets, rope mouldings, crow-stepped gables and carved projecting gargoyles.

Its terraced gardens are of singular beauty. There is also a splendid pinetum, the principal feature of which is the great Araucaria Avenue, said to be the finest of its kind in the British Isles.
