Almost completely covered in ivy, these are the remains of Túath Móintín ( Monteen Castle) , a four storey rectangular tower house built by the McCarthys sometime between 1346 and the mid 15th century. Changing hands several times in the turbulent 16th and 17th century, it suffered a fire in April 1600, during the 9 years war by Captain Flower and again in 1690 following the Battle of the Boyne.
